We believe Aphasia shouldn't be a barrier to belonging.
Aphasia is a communication disorder that affects an individual's ability to speak, read, write, and/or understand language, however, one's intellect remains intact!
It's incredibly frustrating and isolating to lose your ability to express yourself and connect with friends and family. The Georgia Aphasia Project is providing access to quality programs, resources, and treatment for persons with aphasia and their care partners.
In America, Aphasia affects more than
2 million people
150,000 individuals in Georgia alone are living with an aphasia diagnosis.
What Causes Aphasia?
Aphasia can be caused by a stroke, a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), or other neurological diseases like primary progressive aphasia.

ABOUT GAP
We're bridging the gap in the continuum of care for Aphasia.
The Georgia Aphasia Project was founded by two experienced Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) who have dedicated over a decade to working with individuals facing aphasia and related TBI symptoms.
They noticed a significant gap in intensive treatment options within Georgia; often patients with aphasia had to seek intensive services, such as Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programs (ICAPs), out of state. At the heart of our mission, we strive to bridge the GAP in the continuum of care, ensuring individuals with aphasia can effectively communicate their wants, thoughts, and needs – both within their community and to their loved ones.
